UKSN has always been a community built on real people, real skills, and real support. With more than 3000 members across the UK, our organisation has grown into a friendly hub for outdoor adventure, camping, bushcraft, prepping, and self sufficiency. We host events, run camps, and operate Charters that act as local mutual assistance groups. Now we are launching something new that takes community support even further.

Say hello to UKSN Assist, a brand new member powered service designed to help when you need it and give you the chance to support others near you. Think of it as a local lifeline inside a national network. One day you might be helping someone who has broken down. Another day you might need an extra pair of hands on the allotment. UKSN Assist creates a simple way to ask for help or step up when someone nearby needs assistance.
This is not a fully completed system. UKSN Assist is officially in beta, which means it is very much in development and will grow and improve as the community helps shape it. By taking part early on you will be helping us refine how it works so that future members can benefit from a service that feels intuitive and reliable.
What is UKSN Assist?
UKSN Assist is a regional support network built inside WhatsApp. Members join the chat for their area and can post when they need help. Others in that region can respond if they are able. It is designed for practical, everyday support, including:
Breakdowns or travel problems
Help on allotments
Advice or physical assistance with DIY
Support for families during unexpected situations
General help where an extra set of hands makes a difference
Every conversation remains friendly, positive, and community centred. Nobody is expected to help, and every act of assistance is completely voluntary. UKSN cannot be held responsible or liable for outcomes related to assistance between members. The goal is simple: a safe way for members to look out for each other within clear boundaries.
Why we created UKSN Assist
As UKSN has grown, one thing has become clear. Our members genuinely care about supporting each other. Whether they are learning new outdoor skills together, helping at events, or offering guidance on prepping, the spirit of community is at the heart of what we do.
UKSN Assist is the next natural step. It gives members a structured way to request support from people who understand the value of community resilience. It also encourages positive action. When you choose to assist someone near you, you are building real world resilience and strengthening the UKSN network at the same time.
How it works
Inside the UKSN Assist Community you will find dedicated regional chats covering the whole of the UK. You simply join the chat that covers your area. If you live near a border or travel often, you can join more than one. When you need help, you can post a clear message including your general location. Other members in that region can then choose to reply. You can also offer help when you are free.
There is also a Lounge chat for general conversation and an Announcements channel for official updates.
A service built for UK communities
UKSN Assist is not an emergency service and it does not replace professional support. It is a community tool that helps bridge the gap between minor issues and everyday challenges.
UKSN members know how important it is to have a reliable network, especially when dealing with travel, weather, home projects, or personal difficulties. UKSN Assist brings that network to life by giving members a trusted space to offer genuine help to others.
Why being in beta is a strength
Because UKSN Assist is new, we can adapt it quickly. Member feedback will shape everything from regional structure to posting guidelines. The more people who use it and provide ideas, the stronger the system becomes. Launching in beta also lets us experiment without overpromising. You are part of the development process simply by taking part.
How to get involved with UKSN Assist
Getting started is easy. Join the UKSN Assist Community, pick your region, and dont forget to introduce yourself in the lounge. Even if you do not need help right now, your presence strengthens the network. When you do need support, the community will be ready. And if someone nearby needs a hand and you are available, you will have the chance to make a real difference.
Building resilience together
UKSN Assist reflects what UKSN has always been about. Shared skills. Shared experiences. Shared support. Outdoor adventure and self sufficiency become stronger when backed by a community that looks after its own. With UKSN Assist, every member plays a role in creating a more resilient and connected UK.
This is only the beginning. As the beta grows and evolves, UKSN Assist will become one of the most valuable tools our community has ever created. Join in, get involved, and help us build a service that truly belongs to the members.
