UKSN CHARTERS
What Are UKSN Charters?
Charters are member-run, mutual assistance groups operating within the framework of the UKSN. Originally conceived to provide aid to members during emergencies, Charters have evolved to serve a broader purpose within the UKSN community. Today, they facilitate a wide range of local activities, events, and training sessions aimed at promoting outdoor skills, emergency preparedness, and community resilience.
Connecting Communities & Fostering Resilience
At their core, Charters function as local hubs where like-minded individuals come together to share knowledge, participate in group activities, and build connections with fellow members. Each Charter operates under the guidance of UKSN, ensuring alignment with the network's values and principles.
Charters offer a platform for members to engage in various outdoor pursuits, ranging from camping trips and survival skills workshops to community service initiatives and emergency response training. By fostering a sense of camaraderie and collective responsibility, Charters empower members to develop essential skills, build resilience, and contribute to the well-being of their communities.
Whether you're passionate about outdoor adventures, eager to learn new skills, or simply seeking a supportive community of like-minded individuals, joining a UKSN Charter provides a valuable opportunity to connect, grow, and thrive.

CHARTER TYPES
Open Charters
Open charters are inclusive and welcome anyone who shares an interest in preparedness, survival skills, and community resilience. These Charters are accessible to the broader public, encouraging a diverse range of individuals to join. Open Charters often focus on community outreach and education, aiming to spread awareness and build a more extensive network of like-minded individuals. The openness fosters a sense of inclusivity, making it an excellent choice for those who want to engage with a wide array of perspectives and backgrounds.
Closed Charters
Closed Charters operate with a more exclusive membership model, restricting access to a select group of individuals. These Charters often prioritise a close-knit community, allowing for deeper relationships and a higher level of trust among members. Closed Charters may choose this approach to maintain a specific focus, control the group's size, or safeguard sensitive information.
Private Charters
Private Charters strike a balance between openness and exclusivity. While they are not entirely open for anyone to join, interested individuals can request membership by submitting an application. This approach allows the Charter to maintain a degree of selectivity while still providing an opportunity for new members who share a genuine interest in the group's mission. Private Charters often benefit from a diverse yet committed membership, contributing to a well-rounded and dynamic community.
