As we approach the end of another exciting year, all of us at UKSN want to take a moment to wish our incredible members and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This festive season, we reflect on the strength of our community, the adventures we’ve shared, and the goals we’ve achieved together.
Whether you’re braving the frosty outdoors with your loved ones, planning your next bushcraft camp, or simply enjoying a quiet evening by the fire, we hope your holiday is filled with joy, warmth, and memories that last a lifetime.
A Year of Growth and Adventure
2024 has been a remarkable year for UKSN. With over 3,000 members strong, our community has continued to grow, proving that a shared passion for outdoor skills, adventure, and self-sufficiency can bring people together in inspiring ways. From weekend camps to Project LoRa, we’ve seen members of all ages embrace UKSN with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Our Charters have also began to flourish, with 2 new groups founded at the tail end of the year including The Ravens, and the Urban Nomads. These mutual assistance groups, run by our members, have further strengthened local networks.
New Year Resolutions for 2025: Embrace the UKSN Lifestyle
As the New Year approaches, it’s a natural time to think about resolutions. Here at UKSN, we believe resolutions should be more than fleeting promises—they should be steps towards building a more fulfilling, sustainable, and adventurous life. Here are some ideas to inspire your goals for 2025:
Spend More Time Outdoors
There’s no better way to recharge than immersing yourself in nature. Whether it’s a weekend hike, a camping trip, or simply a daily walk in your local park, make it a point to step outside more often. Not only is this great for your physical and mental health, but it also gives you a chance to practise essential bushcraft and survival skills.
Learn a New Outdoor Skill
This year, why not challenge yourself to master a new skill? Whether it’s learning how to forage responsibly, perfecting your navigation skills, or even delving into water purification techniques, every skill you learn brings you closer to becoming truly self-reliant.
Grow Your Own Food
Sustainable living starts at home. If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at growing vegetables, herbs, or even fruit trees, now is the perfect time to start planning. You don’t need a sprawling garden—even a small balcony can become a haven for edible plants. Growing your own food not only reduces your carbon footprint but also teaches patience and responsibility.
Get Involved with Your Local UKSN Charter
Our Charters thrive on active participation. If you’re already a member, why not attend more events or suggest new activities for your group? If you haven’t joined or created a Charter yet, make 2025 the year you do! Local connections are invaluable when it comes to sharing knowledge, practising skills, and supporting one another.
Give Back to the Community
Volunteering your time and skills within UKSN is a fantastic way to contribute. Whether it’s helping to organise an event, mentoring new members, or sharing your expertise online, every little effort strengthens our community and keeps our mission alive.
Celebrate the Festive Season with Outdoor Adventures
While many of us think of Christmas as a time for staying indoors, why not incorporate some outdoor fun into your celebrations this year? Here are a few ideas to make the most of the season:
Winter Walks: Take the family on a festive walk through the countryside or a local nature reserve. Wrap up warm and enjoy the crisp air and frosty landscapes.
Campfire Cooking: Gather around a firepit and try your hand at cooking a simple Christmas treat outdoors. From roasted chestnuts to hot chocolate, the experience is sure to create lasting memories.
Bushcraft Challenges: Set up a friendly family competition to see who can build the sturdiest shelter, light a fire the quickest, or identify the most trees and plants. It’s a fun way to engage everyone while practising essential skills.
Outdoor Decorations: Get creative with natural materials to make festive decorations. Pinecones, holly, and twigs can be turned into beautiful wreaths, ornaments, or table centrepieces.
Thank You for Being Part of UKSN - Merry Christmas!
As we say goodbye to 2024, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. Whether you’re a long-time member or new to the community, your passion, dedication, and enthusiasm have made UKSN what it is today. Together, we’re not just building a community; we’re creating a movement that celebrates resilience, self-reliance, and the joy of the great outdoors.
Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be another year full of opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. We can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together. Until then, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with adventure, discovery, and everything you hold dear.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Warm wishes,
The UKSN Team
