Today we’re launching the UKSN Founders: 3D Printer Project, a focused push to bring the design and production of UKSN gear in-house. This means more control, faster development, and the ability to create practical, field-ready equipment built specifically for our community.

Why This Matters
Right now, producing custom gear can be slow, limited, and dependent on third parties.
By investing in our own 3D printing setup, we can:
Design and test gear tailored to real UKSN use cases
Rapidly prototype and improve products
Produce items on demand
Keep costs lower over time
Expand into completely new ideas driven by members
This shift allows UKSN to become more self-sufficient, and more responsive to what members actually need.

What We’re Funding
We’re looking to acquire a high-performance 3D printing setup to support reliable, in-house production. Our current target is a Bambu Lab P2S or X2D, paired with an AMS (Automatic Material System). This setup gives us:
Consistent, high-quality prints suitable for real-world use
Multi-material and multi-colour capability
Faster production and batch printing
A scalable foundation for future growth
This equipment will allow us to start producing Project LoRa cases and other core UKSN gear straight away. Any profits generated from these products will be reinvested back into UKSN, supporting further development, new projects, and expanding what we can offer the community.

What We’re Building First
To get started quickly, we’re focusing on practical, high-use gear:
LoRa / Meshtastic device cases (rugged, field-ready housings)
Comms-based accessories such as antenna mounts, radio mounting solutions, and cable management parts
Custom NFC tags for identification, access, and everyday use
Small utility mounts and adapters for field and equipment setups
Once production is established, we’ll expand into more advanced designs based on real-world use and member feedback.
Built With Member Input
UKSN gear isn’t designed in isolation. As the project develops, we’ll be actively taking input from members to guide what gets created next. From new product ideas to improvements on existing designs, this will be shaped by real use, not guesswork. If it’s useful in the field, it gets built.
Become a UKSN Founder
To make this happen, we’re opening up the UKSN Founders: 3D Printer Project.
Support the project at a level that works for you:
£10 Support → £10 store credit + 10% lifetime discount (on 3D printed products)
£25 Support → £25 store credit + 12% lifetime discount (on 3D printed products)
£50 Support → £50 store credit + 15% lifetime discount (on 3D printed products)
Your support directly helps fund the equipment, while giving you both immediate value and long-term benefits.
3D Printer Founder Benefits
As a UKSN Founder, you’ll receive:
Store credit matching your support amount to spend on 3D printed gear
Lifetime* discount on UKSN 3D printed products
A digital UKSN Founder badge on your account
Early access to new 3D printed releases
Recognition as an early supporter of the project
You’ll also be invited to join our exclusive Founders WhatsApp group, where we’ll share updates, early designs, and give you the opportunity to shape what gets built next.
A Step Forward for UKSN
This project is about more than equipment. It’s about building the tools to create better gear, faster ideas, and a stronger, more capable UKSN. If you’ve ever wanted to support what we’re building, and be part of it - this is your opportunity.
