Another Outdoor Giant Falls: Winfields Outdoors in Administration

It’s always tough to report on the loss of another name in the outdoor world, but sadly, Winfields Outdoors is the latest casualty. After serving outdoor enthusiasts for decades, Winfields has officially entered administration.

On April 3rd, 2025, Jason Mark Elliott and Craig Johns of Cowgills Limited were appointed as joint administrators of Winfield’s Limited T/A Winfields Outdoors. Two days later, a public notice was shared on Winfields’ Facebook page confirming the news:
NOTICEWINFIELD’S LIMITED T/A WINFIELDS OUTDOORS – IN ADMINISTRATION PLEASE NOTE ALL WINFIELDS STORES AND WEBSITE ARE CLOSED AND CURRENTLY NOT TRADING. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATORS (COWGILLS LIMITED) AT WINFIELDS@COWGILLS.CO.UK JASON MARK ELLIOTT & CRAIG JOHNS OF COWGILLS LIMITED WERE APPOINTED AS JOINT ADMINISTRATORS OF THE COMPANY ON 3 APRIL 2025. The Joint Administrators act as agents of the company and without personal liability at all times.
This means all Winfields stores and their online operations are now closed and no longer trading. It marks the end of a long-standing presence in the outdoor retail world — one that many UKSN members will no doubt have shopped with at some point, whether for tents, boots, camping gear, or clothing.
A Familiar Pattern
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we’ve had to report on an outdoor brand closing its doors — and it likely won’t be the last. The current retail climate is challenging, especially for independent or specialist stores. Between rising costs, changing consumer habits, and increased competition online, even well-established companies are struggling to survive.
The collapse of Winfields serves as a reminder that the outdoor sector isn’t immune to wider economic pressures. It also underscores the importance of supporting trusted brands and retailers where we can, especially those that actively support the outdoor community.
What Happens to Winfields Customers ?
For customers with outstanding orders, gift cards, or warranty claims, it’s uncertain what the next steps will be. Those affected are advised to contact the administrators directly at: winfields@cowgills.co.uk.
