It is with great sadness that we announce the liquidation of Khyam, a brand long cherished by the camping and outdoor community. Renowned for their innovative designs and high-quality tents, Khyam has been a trusted name for decades. Only recently, we reviewed their AirTek Arden 4.0, an inflatable tent that epitomised their commitment to practical, durable, and user-friendly camping gear.
What Happened to Khyam?
On 23rd October 2024, Khyam submitted an extraordinary resolution to wind up the company, as per records on Companies House. The liquidation process is being managed by Steven Glanvill of CBA Business Solutions, based at 126 New Walk, Leicester, LE1 7JA.
This unfortunate development marks the end of a brand that has significantly contributed to the outdoor and camping world. While the reasons behind the closure remain unclear, its impact on loyal customers and the wider community is undeniable.
A Message from the Retired Founder
The retired founder of Khyam, Tim Roberts, recently addressed members of the Khyam Tent Owners Group on Facebook. In a heartfelt statement, he expressed his sadness over the situation and shared his hopes for resolving customer concerns:
“I am extremely saddened to read many of your comments, which have only just come to my recent attention. I created the originating company way back in 1987. I have always been proud of not only our heritage introducing the unique and patented quick erect system, which I know many of you have enjoyed. Not only proud of the products we designed but the service we gave our customers. There are members of this group who are ex-employees who together with me became an important part of a great team I was privileged to lead. For the last eight years, I have retired and had no beneficial interest in running any subsequent companies distributing the brand other than offering support as brand owner and, more regrettably, personal financial support to maintain the brand in the UK. It is public record as to how much I have lost in this recent demise. At this juncture, for legal reasons, I cannot go into more detail. However, what I can say is that I will endeavour in good time to work with all dissatisfied customers to find some solution. I cannot guarantee to satisfy everyone 100%, however, should my endeavours through the courts prove positive, then a statement shall be made through this group as to next steps. Please could I respectfully ask everybody not to bombard me with their issues at this time. I have read each and every one of them. Those of you who have paid for a product and have either not received it, those that have received a product that is not fit for purpose, and those that are waiting for the return of a repaired product are priority, and I ask you not to despair—a solution will be found. The embarrassment of seeing the Khyam brand I created being sullied in this way is difficult for me to bear, and I am truly sorry. Thank you, and I shall be in touch once the position becomes clear. I appreciate your patience.”
