HOW TO USE
Shave off thin curls - Use your knife to scrape small shavings from the fatwood stick. The fine curls will catch a spark much more easily.
Create a small tinder pile - Gather the shavings into a tight bundle. A pile about the size of a £2 coin is usually enough to start a flame.
Strike with a ferro rod or lighter - Aim sparks directly into the pile using a ferro rod, or touch a flame to the shavings with a lighter. The high resin content helps them ignite quickly.
Add slightly larger pieces - Once your tinder is burning, feed it with small twigs or kindling. Fatwood burns hot, so it will support the flame long enough to build your fire.
Use the stick whole if needed - In wet or windy conditions, light a slightly thicker shaving or a small split from the main stick to maintain a stronger initial flame.
