A building collapsed Friday night in Egypt's capital Cairo leaving at least nine people injured. The collapse occurred after a 3.3 magnitude earthquake hit the country. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Population, the accident happened at midnight in the Garden City area of Cairo, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported. The cause of the accident was not confirmed. The quake was mild and registered at least 4.0 on the Richter stage, head of Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Hatem Ouda told Egyptian state news agency MENA.

A free lunch for villagers in the Ayeyarwady Delta turned sour after it landed more than a third of the rural community in hospital with food poisoning, local officials said Friday. Hundreds of villagers from Eain Ta Lone in Maungmya Township fell ill after eating fish stew served at a Buddhist ceremony to celebrate the ordination of local novices. The eruption of the Kambalny volcano in southern Kamchatka on Saturday has surprised scientists of the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) of the Russian Academy of Scientists. At least 18 people were injured in Langham Place on Saturday (March 25) afternoon after an escalator stopped and reversed, according to the South China Morning Post. Video footage showed the escalator changing its direction at a high speed, causing a pile-up of people at its base. Eyewitnesses recounted seeing four men and 14 women lose their balance and roll down the escalator. At least 3 persons were killed and 25 others injured today when part of a residential building collapsed after a gas pipeline explosion in China's northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, local officials said. The accident happened at a multi-storey residential building in Tumd Right Banner of Baotou City. The part of the building collapsed due to natural gas pipeline explosion, the local government said in a press release. Four of the injured residents were in critical condition, it said, adding the cause of the accident is under investigation.
