Torrential rain lashed parts of central China's Hunan and Hubei provinces over the past two days, with flooding affecting at least 390,000 people. In western and northern Hunan, heavy rain triggered flash floods, damaging mountain roads and raising the risk of landslides, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said Friday. At least 15 people were killed and 70 others injured as twin blasts hit a market on Friday afternoon in Parachinar, capital city of Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Kurram Agency, reported local Urdu TV channel Geo. The attack took place at a downtown market in the city, where many people were busy with shopping for the coming Eid, a holiday which marks the end of the fast month Ramadan, said local media. A 50-year-old man was killed when his car was struck by a tree in the town of Uelzen in Lower Saxony, as the German weather service DWD confirmed that a tornado had caused widespread damage across northern Germany. A cyclist was also severely injured by another tree nearby as the atypical weather pattern hit the region. Meanwhile, an 83-year-old woman died at Gifhorn, also in Lower Saxony, after her car hit a tree that had been blown across the street in strong gales, police said. DTE Energy says more than 47,000 people in metro Detroit are without power after severe storms rolled through the area on Thursday evening. According to DTE, most of the outages are in Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. DTE Energy notes that crews have already restored power to 22,000 of the more than 69,000 customers who originally lost power. Right now, it's not clear when the power will be restored for the rest of the people impacted. DTE says they will have restoration estimates once crews assess the damage in the morning. At least 12 people were hurt when a vehicle and an NJ Transit light rail car collided in Jersey City on Thursday evening, authorities said. The vehicle and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail car crashed around 10:35 p.m. at Hudson and Grand streets, according to the Jersey City Police Department. All of the injuries were minor, police said. The driver of the vehicle was among those injured. It's unclear what caused the crash, and an investigation was ongoing Thursday night. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail was suspended in both directions between Essex Street and Exchange Place around 11 p.m.
